The Red Wheelbarrow

so much depends
upon
a red wheel
barrow
glazed with rain
water
beside the white
chickens.

Sometimes you just escape the avalanche,
the waves only kiss your heels instead of swallowing you,
Sometimes you walk forward into the wind for so long you forget to turn around,
and when you do,
the path back is gone
but everything you love is still ahead.
